We often think of the gym as a solo adventure. Whether that’s lifting weights or putting in miles on the treadmill, it often gets categorised as something that we do separately from one another.
However, with the advent of group training classes, there has been a shift away from the gym being a place where a person exercises singularly among a crowd, and instead is fast becoming a space where not only can a person choose to exercise individually, but can also exercise as part of a group instead.
Classes Provide an Inclusive Exercise Environment
At Stack House Gym we try to make sure we offer as much diversity as we can. One of the earlier things that we sought to introduce was group training classes. We believe that exercise classes help to make exercise more inclusive.
Excellent for Beginners
A lot of people who are new to the gym environment use these classes to boost up their fitness and their confidence while they’re getting used to adding exercise into their regular weekly routines.
The great thing about classes is that being in the group takes the pressure off the individual. By being part of the group, you know there is no focus on you specifically.
But whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned gym goer, the other really good aspect of group training is that if you find you enjoy classes, typically they are going to be reoccurring at the same time every week.
Classes Encourage Routine
This encourages people to be a regular exerciser. Often times we give ourselves excuses for not attending the gym, missing out on the most vital part of getting fitter; consistency.
The class timetable takes away an element of that excuse making. You cannot tell yourself that you will go to that same class tomorrow, as it probably won’t be running. It gives a schedule and a structure to your exercising experience.
Join a Community and Make Friends
But probably the most important part of group training classes, is the collective experience.
If COVID taught us anything, it’s the importance of community and social activity. We are social beings, and group training classes give us that social connection. We can encourage each other to keep pushing.
We can observe one another’s technique in movement. We can gain confidence from one another. Many of our attendees to the classes we run at Stack House Gym make friendships within the group. Seeing the same faces each week getting fitter and stronger encourages you to keep going, and most importantly gives you confidence that the process is working.
Group Training Is Fun
Group training classes are all about having fun while getting what you want out of them.
Stack House Gym run a variety of classes each week and we keep things fresh by updating our class timetable often. When asked why our members attend classes the most common response was “the personal trainers are fantastic” and “a 45 minute class provides great benefits to health and fitness”.
